5U Program Fall 2023

Updated: 1 SEP 2023

Aloha Region 188 Five-and-Under (5U) Soccer Families,

The anxiously awaited start of our 5U soccer program is upon us.  Our 5-and-Under (5U) will begin on Friday, 8 SEP and continue each Friday evening through 27 OCT.  Our sessions will normally go from 5:00-6:15. Please come 15-20 minutes for the first session (8 SEP) to facilitate handing out uniforms and soccer balls.

We will be conducting the 5U Program in a jamboree format.  Our entire 5U Program will occur at the same time.  We will have close to 40 players participating.  We will divide this large group into approximately four smaller groups or “teams”. There will be two girls teams and one boys team.  We will have a planned program for each week.  The program will call for some parent participation (one-on-one with your player) each week.  None of it is too difficult (skill or physical exertion).  Please be prepared to jump in when called on.

In order to manage these weekly programs we will have two parents assigned to each group as assistant coaches.  Players will be divided into “teams” for organizational purposes.  These “teams” will stay the same, for the most part, all season.  The “teams” will conduct the activities together each week and scrimmage amongst themselves.

The volunteer assistant coaches will execute the activities that are planned for each week’s program.   The program and activities will be provided, so no preparation is required on your part, other than a review of the activities that are planned.

We still need assistant coaches ( 3 x boys, 4 x girls)!

Please email me ([email protected]) if you would like to volunteer and in what capacity.  I would ask that you also register on-line as a volunteer. Instructions for registering are on the [Volunteer] Tab of our homepage.

We will use both email and the Game Changer Application for communications and reminders of program sessions.  Please download the GameChanger Application to your phones.  When invited please and accept the invitation to the team site.

Each weekly program will look like this:

5:00-5:10 –Group Warm-up Activity
5:10-5:45 – Individual Group Activities
5:45-5:50 – Water Break
5:50-6:05 – Scrimmage (Starting in week #3)
6:05-6:10 –Wrap-up

The Five “Ws” of Program Information Follows:

8U Program Fall 2023

Registration numbers will dictate the exact team and practice constructs for the Fall 2023 Program.  The nominal format will consist of one training session per week (5:00-6:00 PM, approximate) and one game session per week (Saturdays).  The game format is small-sided 4v4, with no goalkeepers.  Once registration closes and volunteer coaches are confirmed.  More information will be promulgated.

8U Program activities will be conducted on our 8U Fields behind Mokulele Elementary on Hickam.  A map of the fields can be found at the below link

The 10U format is 7v7 with goalkeepers.  Players will be rostered once volunteer coaches and referees are confirmed.  We expect to start activities in late August.

12U Program Fall 2023

14U Program Fall 2023

The 14U Program is the first time our players will play in a standard 11v11 format.  The players move up to a Size 5 soccer ball on a full-size field.  Roster size is approximately 15 players.  Training sessions are twice per week for 90 minutes on base.  Games are on Saturdays off-base.  We expect to have one 14UB and one 14UG teams.

14U Practice Location

16/19U Program Fall 2023

The 16U and 19U age divisions combine to a 16/19U division due to an overall lack of numbers across the greater AYSO Section 7 program.  The format is 11v11 on a full-size field with a roster size of approximately 18 players.  These are the toughest age divisions to fill for Region 188 as the available pool of players declines along with the other available activities for these ages in the military community.  Even if we don't have enough players to field a team, we have in the past combined with other regions or worked to place our players on other regions' teams.  We expect to begin activities in early-AUG.

Please Note:  We will waitlist this age division until we achieve a "critical mass" of players and will then activate the players from the waitlist and begin registering.
