American Youth Soccer Organization Providing world class youth soccer programs that enrich children's lives.

Welcome to Region 188 of the American Youth Soccer Organization.

Fall Core Season Overview

We expect our Fall 2023 Season to return close to our historical numbers in terms of player registrations and teams fielded. The following sections provide an overview of each of our age divisions.

Fall and Winter/Spring CORE Program

Our core program is the foundation for all the fun, excitement and learning that happens on the fields. AYSO is best known for our core program – it’s where the large majority of kids fall in love with soccer and make memories that will last a lifetime.

There are six core values – or what we call AYSO’s Six Philosophies – that are the foundation of our core program, and all others: Everyone Plays, Balanced Teams, Open Registration, Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship and Player Development. These are the essence of AYSO and it all starts with Everyone Plays. Every kid plays at least half of every game.

Also, teams are put together in a way that makes playing soccer about the experience, not wins or losses. It’s not about blowing out another team with an unbelievable score; it’s about sportsmanship and learning to be the best possible team mate and opponent. Developing players is what we’re about, because soccer skills and life skills go hand in hand. AYSO’s main purpose is to get kids on the field, provide them with good coaches, and teach them to play soccer.

4U, 5U and 6U Divisions Overview

Our 4U, 5U and 6U divisions are specially designed for our youngest players.

The 4U program is entering its second year in Region 188. This is an AYSO Playground child development program.  The objective of this program is to help develop, in collaboration with the parent or guardian, the child's fundamental motor skills using soccer as a common thread.

Players in the 5U program must be at least 4 years old by the start of the Membership Year (MY) which is our fall season. Both the 5U and the 6U programs are a Jamboree style program.

The 5U and 6U programs group uses a Size 3 ball and is required to bring shin guards and cleats/athletic shoes.  Water is always a necessity.

Players in the 5U and 6U divisions are taught the elementary rules of soccer through fun and exciting activities, with funny names that replicate basic soccer skills and decision-making in a fun environment.  At the end of the season, players will have learned the skills necessary to dribble, strike and pass the ball, building the foundational skills necessary to continue to progress in successive seasons.

Jamboree (5U and 6U) programs are 1-day per week sessions where the players will get to practice with their teams and work with our Master Coaches on various skill sets. We do encourage all parents to actively participate with their players during the practice. After the practice is over then we will play games on the same day.

The 5U Program is held on Friday evenings from 5:00-6:15.  The 6U program is held on Saturday mornings from 8:00-9:15.

8U, 10U and 12U Divisions Overview

Our soccer program offers rule teaching, skill building, and competitive matches without the burden of W-L standings. We believe that all players should play to win, but not in lieu of good sportsmanship and fair play. No soccer experience is necessary for a player to join, only the desire to play. AYSO's core philosophies are observed at all times.

In the 8U, 10U and 12U divisions, the games are played in short-sided formats, on age-appropriate sized fields, to maximize player involvement in the game.  Heading is not-permitted in these age divisions for the protection of our players.

14U, 16/19U Divisions Overview

The 14U program is the first age division where their is full-sided play.  Heading is also permitted for the first time in this age division.

Our 16/19U program combines both the 16U and 19U divisions as we very often cannot field teams in either division alone.  There are many other regions on island who also cannot form separate teams and thus are forced to combine in a single age division.

There is a chance that Region 188 may have to combine with another neighboring region to form a full-roster.  If a player wants to play, we can find a roster for that player even if our region cannot field a team.

Our Fall 16/19U season is a great warm-up for the high school soccer season which is played NOV-FEB in Hawaii.  We even offer a fun short-sided winter season (JAN-FEB) for our players (14U and 16/19U) who are not playing high school soccer.  This is a great season to work on individual skills.

Winter 14U 7v7 Program

This program is designed to keep our 14U players (who are not playing for their school teams) engaged with soccer.  The format is 7v7 played on a 12U size field.  The program is designed to promote more touches on the ball and subsequently more tactical decision-making by our players in order to develop their skills in a less stressful environment.  The season will run from mid-January to early-March.
